Motherwort seeds

Motherwort / Leonurus - genus of perennial or biennial herbaceous plants of the Lamiaceae family, or Lamiaceae (Labiatae). Motherwort is a plant 50-100 cm high. It is a good honey plant, has a long flowering period, and is well visited by bees. Blossoms in July - September (60-70 days).

The honey productivity of motherwort does not depend on the weather, like many other herbs, and is over 300 kg/ha. Nectar is released both in hot weather and on cool days.

Motherwort honey is light golden in color (reminiscent of straw in color), thick, with a slight aroma. It is used for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, strengthening the heart muscle, as a sedative, wound healing and general tonic.

Motherwort is propagated by seeds. They are sown in the ground before winter or early spring (when planting in spring, it is necessary that the seeds undergo scarification). The depth of sowing seeds during winter sowing is 1-1.5 cm, during spring sowing - up to 2 cm, on lighter structural soils - up to 3 cm. For early spring sowing with row spacing of 60 cm, the seeding rate is 7-8 kg of seeds per 1 ha. When sowing before winter, the seeding rate should be increased by 12-15%. Seed germination persists for 4-6 years. Motherwort is completely undemanding to soils, drought-resistant.
