Zambianus / Cucumis zambianus
A climbing or trailing vine vegetable with palm lobed leaves and small yellow flowers, followed by decorative, pale yellowish green beige, soft-thorned fruits, native to Zambia where it is cultivated by local farmers. The young fruits are mottled green and fully edible, tasting like a cucumber. Mature fruits have a hard shell, green and yellow stripes, round, reminiscent of watermelon, with wavy feathers.
Cultivation: Standard horticultural crop for cucumbers. Sow indoors just before last frost or direct sowing. Proven to be an effective weed barrier - it suppresses weeds between beds.
