Carya fringed or large shaggy hickory / Carya laciniosa - is a tall (up to 40 m) tree, with light gray bark peeling off in long, narrow stripes (hence the name - fringed). The leaves are large, 35-50 cm long, with 7-9 leaflets 10-20 cm long.
The fruits are single, elliptical or round, 4-7 cm long. The nut is ellipsoidal or round, tetrahedral, with an elongated apex, up to 3.5 cm long. The kernel is light brown, with a pleasant sweet taste.
Cultivated as a fruit and ornamental tree. In addition, like other species of the genus Karia, it has valuable hard and durable wood, used in construction and for the manufacture of various carpentry products.
