Valerian «Ukraine» / Valeriana officinalis
Perennial herbaceous plant 30-100 cm high with a large number of thin roots with a very strong odor. Blooms from May to August. Medicinal raw materials are two-year-old rhizomes with roots.
It is widely used in folk medicine to soothe heart pain, nervous disorders, hysteria, headaches, epilepsy, as an anticonvulsant and antihelminthic. In cooking, it is used to increase appetite as a seasoning for meat dishes and soups.
Included in a number of complex preparations for the treatment of neurosis, hysteria, insomnia, heart, to strengthen the immune system. Valerian is harvested in September-October or April.
