A perennial herbaceous plant from the deaf-crop family (Lamiaceae). Medicinal, food, essential oil, melliferous, coloring, tannin-bearing, insecticidal, ornamental plant.
Peculiarities:
- shade plant;
- winter hardiness - high;
- widely used in scientific and traditional medicine;
- essential oil from has a phytoncidal, antimicrobial effect;
- formerly used to dye silk and wool yellow-orange;
- successfully used (together with Thyme) to create decorative flower beds on lawns;
- is part of many seasonings (called Oregano), goes well with black pepper, basil, marjoram, rosemary;
- traditionally in Ukraine it is a symbol of maternal love and children's health, as well as delicious tea.
