Sensitive mimosa (Mimosa pudica) is a decorative herbaceous plant known for its ability to fold leaves when touched. Grown as a houseplant or as an annual in open ground in warm regions. Prefers sunny areas with light, loose, slightly acidic soil. Sowing is carried out in spring, after seed stratification, at a temperature not lower than +20 °C. Planting depth — 0.5–1 cm, spacing between plants — 20–30 cm.
Care includes regular watering with warm water without overwatering, loosening, weeding, and feeding with complex fertilizers containing micronutrients. The plant is sensitive to cold, drafts, and drying out. Flowering begins 2–3 months after germination; flowers are small, pink-lilac, gathered in fluffy heads. Propagated by seeds, less often by cuttings. Indoors, it requires bright diffused light and high air humidity.
Also called sensitive plant, sleepy grass, sleepy plant, action plant, humble plant, touch-me-not, touch-and-die, or shameplant.
