Hjelmqvist's cotoneaster / Cotoneaster hjelmqvistii - a decorative deciduous shrub from the Rose family (Rosaceae). This species is distinguished by its dense crown and neat appearance. Mature plants usually reach 1–1.5 m in height, sometimes more. The crown is spreading and responds well to pruning, which is why the shrub is often used in hedges and ornamental landscape compositions.
The leaves are small and oval, dark green during summer, and turn rich red and crimson shades in autumn. The flowers are small, white or pale pink, and arranged in corymb-like clusters. After flowering, bright red fruits develop and remain on the branches until late autumn, giving the plant ornamental value even after leaf fall.
Hjelmqvist's cotoneaster is undemanding, resistant to frost and drought, and tolerates urban conditions well. It is valued for its decorative appearance throughout the entire season and is widely used for landscaping gardens, parks, and residential landscapes.
