Stern's cotoneaster or Sternian’s cotoneaster / Cotoneaster sternianus - a decorative shrub from the Rose family (Rosaceae). This is an evergreen or semi-evergreen species that can reach up to 3 m in height. It is distinguished by its dense crown and neat appearance, which makes it popular in landscaping.
The leaves are oval, about 2–4 cm long, bright green above, and covered below with soft whitish or yellowish felt-like hairs. In autumn, part of the foliage may fall, but the shrub remains decorative thanks to its fruits.
The flowers are small, white or slightly pinkish, and arranged in clusters of several flowers. After flowering, bright red rounded fruits develop and remain on the branches for a long time, decorating the plant even during the colder months.
Stern's cotoneaster is undemanding, tolerates frost and urban conditions well, and is widely used for hedges, borders, and ornamental shrub groupings. It is appreciated for its hardiness and decorative appearance throughout the entire season.
