Calabash «Serpentine» - this is an annual climbing plant. Produces long (1.5-2m), light green, cylindrical fruits weighing 3-7kg, which can bend and twist during the growing season.
Fruits have the ability to regenerate: if you cut off part of the fruit, the cut site will heal, and the fruit will continue to grow. Young ovaries up to 50 cm long are used for food. They are consumed like zucchini and squash, fried, stewed, stuffed, pickled, and caviar is prepared from them.
Also known as bottle gourd, white-flowered gourd, long melon, birdhouse gourd, New Guinea bean, New Guinea butter bean, Tasmania bean, and opo squash.
