Rhododendron «Fortunei» / «Rhododendron fortunei» - an evergreen, fast-growing species of rhododendron with delicate pink-white flowers. At 10 years of age, the shrub reaches 0.6–0.7 m in height, in adulthood up to 2.5 m, with a crown diameter of up to 1.5 m. Growth rate is up to 15 cm per year. Leaves are elongated, green, bluish underneath, 7–10 cm long and 3–8 cm wide.
Flowers have a strong pleasant fragrance, initially delicate pink, later creamy white, large, up to 9 cm in diameter, gathered in clusters of 6–12. Flowering begins in mid-May and lasts about 4 weeks. Starts blooming from the age of 4.
Rhododendron fortunei should be planted in acidic, organic-rich soil. During drought it requires mandatory watering. Winter hardiness is moderate.
Used in landscape design for creating various compositions, flower beds, and alpine slides.
